2018 invite to support MfM
October 4, 2018
To our family, friends and supporters,
Twenty years is a significant milestone, meant to be celebrated and congratulated. For us, this year is the 20th anniversary of the worst day of our lives. When I think back on who we were before Molly’s diagnosis with Hepatoblastoma, who we were on October 4th, 1998 and who we are now – it revolves and evolves from the experiences she took us through.
There is a common saying “Life is a Journey”, the meaning of Life’s Journey is to not rush life, but to savor its moments and learn its lessons along the way. But, what if your journey will only last four years? Do you rush to fit a lifetime into those years? Is it a journey or is it a marathon of life?
We were in a rush to experience all the life and dreams we had for our daughter. All the milestones we knew we wouldn’t have with her. And finally, we listened – to Molly. “I want to play” “I want to be with sissy” “When I turn into an Angel, I want to hold hands so we can all go” “Please take care of my hospital friends” “Have parties so I can fly down and be with you”. So, we rested and snuggled and cherished and simply savored her voice, her dreams, her requests and her lessons. 20 years later – she never leaves our minds, so much of her is left behind with us. It’s not what we lost, it’s what we gained from her. Missing her brings us to our knees, taking care of her hospital friends picks us up.
We are not an anomaly. There are copious families like ours, who are running the marathon. Kids, like Molly, who want to Play and go to Parties and Rest and Hold Hands. By supporting MilesFromMolly.org, you help pass Molly’s lessons to her hospital friends, you help them Play and Party, you provide Rest and allow them to Hold Hands with their family and you allow them to cherish and savor. Molly’s legacy at Randall Children’s Hospital has helped over 14,000 children and their families.
“Thank u for such a great time!! My son is use to going to the hospital for pokes, hurt, and staying for several days. I wasn’t sure I was going to take him to this event, So many emotions for him and I. I am truly thankful I did!! I wanted him to experience the “hospital as a good place too”. Molly’s party was perfect! My son was so happy, thank u for doing this, it truly meant a lot to my son and our family!!! We will always appreciate Molly’s party!” ~ RCH Parent
